For many people the main reason to go to Camboinha is not the beach itself: it is where the boats leave for Areia Vermelha island, the sandbank that appears only at low tide, inside the State Marine Park.

Sheltered by the coral belt, the water is shallow at low tide — around one metre eighty — forming natural pools good for free diving and snorkelling.

There is also infrastructure for water sports: kayaks, jet skis and speedboats, with specific areas for vessels.

Camboinha has well-equipped beach huts, bars and restaurants nearby, plus showers, toilets, umbrellas and loungers for rent. It is the north coast's choice for anyone wanting to spend the whole day without bringing everything from home.

How long to set aside

Half a day covers the beach. If the plan includes the Areia Vermelha trip, set aside the whole day and organise everything around the low-tide window.
