This is the address for anyone coming to João Pessoa for the first time: the craft market at night, pavement restaurants and the Hotel Tambaú at the end of the beach. The district is small, under a square kilometre, and almost everything is done on foot. Aruanda is thirteen minutes from the sand.

The craft market runs at night, right by the beach. It is the easiest walk for anyone staying here.
Tambaú was an isolated fishing village, living on fish and coconuts, with a Franciscan chapel dedicated to Saint Anthony. The railway arrived between 1906 and 1911. Avenida Presidente Epitácio Pessoa, opened between 1951 and 1956, connected the neighbourhood to the centre. The Hotel Tambaú opened in 1971, and it was the hotel that drew tourism to this part of the seafront. The craft market dates from 1974; the Feirinha as it is known today, from the late 1980s.
It is the smallest district on the shore: 0.85 km² for 9,899 residents. Also the densest. Anyone staying here does almost everything on foot.
